Iranian traditional music has its own place in the hearts of the admirers of that music. The very unique instruments, their sounds, the divine voice of the singer which is mostly talking about the separation of the lover from the beloved ones, accompanied by the rich poems of the Rumi, Hafiz and Sa’adi have given this type a special place in the hearts of the audience.
As a student group, IGSA has been always enjoying of having the dedicated and talented students practicing on this kind of music to make it heard by the international students and been admired.
This year along with Engineering Graduate Students Association (EGSA), a group of students are going to have a different introduction of the Iranian folklore songs not accompanied by traditional instruments but with the classic ones like violin, piano and guitar.
This is a difficult mission, however it will give the impression of the unity of the eastern and western cultures that in the language of the music, where the pure hearts of the humans talk, eastern folk songs can be accompanied by western instruments and can be praised by the international audience.
In this event, all the current Iranian graduate students of the University of Southern California were invited cordially to the ceremony held by Prof. George Chillingarian – Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Petroleum Engineering Departments – and Iranian Graduate Students Association (IGSA) to celebrate Sizdeh Bedar 1385, along with Persian dinner and friendly get-togethers.
